Who We Are

"We" is really just one coffee lover living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I love all things coffee and I love Small Business. Think of me as a small business cheer leader.

Small business owners embody the Independent spirit America is known for. The people who love what they do, and have a drive in themselves to reject the idea that success is working for "the man", or becoming a "corporate drone". They embrace their dreams and do whatever it takes to make those dreams a reality.

The real hero in Michigan's coffee culture, is the people who pass by the Starbucks of the world and seek out the independent coffee shops whenever possible. This website if for them, and hopefully to inspire others to discover that local coffee really is better. 

Our Mission

We will be the go-to place for people looking to support their local coffee business. MIcoffee.org will build the most comprehensive directory of Michigan coffee shops and local coffee roasters. Built for people, by people. We include all Independent, non-franchised, Michigan-based coffee businesses. We will promote Michigan's coffee businesses, large and small, for the good of our communities and the good of Small Business Owners in Michigan's coffee industry. 

How did we get here

In 2010 I had just moved back to Grand Rapids after a 2 year stint in Cincinnati Ohio and was looking for a new coffeehouse. So I turned on the "Googleizer" to see what I could find. Sadly, it wasn't much, and what I did find didn't really help me decide if I wanted to visit a particular place. The "reviews" I found were sorely lacking vital information. "I love this place" just didn't cut it for me. I wanted to know more! I wanted to read something that made me want to go there. It occurred to me, I was going to have to be the one to take up the task of blindly visiting as many local coffeehouses I could find and writing quality reviews, and so micoffee.org was born.

You are invited to help create the greatest resource for people in search of great coffee in Michigan!

Here's the way we see it. If it interests you, it will interest someone else. A lot of someone elses!

• If you know of a coffee shop that should be included in our directory, let us know so we can add them!
• If you know of a roaster that isn't in our directory, let us know so we can add them!
• Write a review of a coffee shop in your town.
• Write a review of a coffee roaster in your town.
• Write a funny or thought provoking story that has something to do with you and your coffee experience.

You don't have to be a professional writer to write a great story. And it doesn't need to be very long either. Just use your own words, as if you were telling a friend about this great new place you found. It's pretty much that simple.
